3 Unconventional New Year's Resolutions

I know a lot of people hate New Year’s Resolutions.

“Why do you need to wait until January 1st ? You could totally just start now.”

I know.

I really do.

But, I still like to use the end of the year (especially the downtime between mid to end of December) to reflect on the past 12 months.

And, yes, set Goals for the coming year.

One of my rules to actually make them happen is not to have more than 3-5 per year.

I can have as many guidelines as I want or learnings. But a handful of resolutions max.

Anyway, this year I’m stealing 2 of mine from a video I watched (Linked in The Big Green Vault below) and 1 I’ve been meaning to do for a long time.

Let’s get to it!

  1. Complete 1 Year Defining Challenge:

Not sure what the Challenge will be but my wife and I are determined to have 1…

When you’re a kid, each year is different. You’re studying, you’re growing, everything is a new experience.

Ask me about 1998 and I’ll tell you: “4th Grade. First time on a plane.”

Then you become an adult, enter the workforce and it’s easy for the years to melt into each other. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I love my routine.

But, it’s also nice to be able to look back in 20 years and go “2025 ? yea that’s the year we ran a marathon in the arctic circle!” (to my wife if you’re reading this, don’t get any ideas from this please…)

  1. Have 1 Big adventure per quarter

This is similar to the first one but on a smaller scale.

It wouldn’t be something you have to prepare for too far in advance.

But, a multi-day summer hike.

Trying out activities you’ve never tried before.

It’s shocking how easy it is to just not experience anything new after a certain age.

  1. Reread 5 of my favorite Books:

Some books are too good to read only once.

Unfortunately, I’ve only reread 2 books in my entire life.

In 2025, I plan on rereading:

  1. Le Desert Des Tartares

  2. Fooled by Randomness

  3. 1984

  4. Guns, Germs and Steel

  5. Brave New World

Are you thinking of any New Year's Resolutions ? Drop me an Email and Let me know.

Now, adventuring is great but it’s also expensive.

It takes a pre-planning and a lot of financial discipline.

I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to many of you and one of the most common challenges is: I feel I don’t have control over my money. I spend on things that don’t bring me joy.

I struggled with this for years and condensed the process into a 3 step system.

If you feel like you need to align your spending habits with what brings you joy,

my new guide and workbook, the Busy Beginners' Finance Quickstart has an entire Step by Step Analysis section on this:

Step 1: Highlights where you’re going over/under budget

Step 2:  Analyze what you’ve spent money on and brought you lasting joy

Step 3: Compare to what you’re actually spending on and how easy it is to shift the money:

If you need help turning your Financial Challenges into Clear Priorities in 3 hours,
