3 Reminders Grounding Me During Stock Market Chaos

3 Reminders Grounding Me during Stock Market Chaos

You’d think after living through the Global Financial Crisis, the 2020 crash, and the 2022–2023 bear market, we’d be used to stock market chaos.

We’re not. Every dip still messes with our heads.

But, since it’s not my first time on this ride, I have my rituals (sobbing into a pillow at night) and reminders to get through it.

Here are my Top 3:

1) Step away from the internet

The Doom predictors are out in full force:

“This one is different. Our entire Economic system built on Free-Trade is about to change FOREVER”

Maybe. But:

The Global Financial Crisis was supposed to bring down the entire Financial System.

The 2020 Crash was going to take “Years if not decades to recover from”.

The 2022 Bear Market was going to last until “interest rates are cut”.

None of the above happened.

“Expert” predictions have a history of being inaccurate (about 50%).
No one can accurately and consistently predict the if, when, why, how, how bad and how long of a crisis.

So I’d rather flip a coin and move on with my life.

2) I probably still haven’t earned most of the money I’ll ever earn

Let’s say the stock market crashes and it takes 30 years to recover.

Not fun… But,

I’m 12 years into my career, 25-30 years away from retirement.

I have more time left than has passed + I’m just entering “peak earning” years (hopefully… God willing… knock wood.)

This means I have time and resources to allocate to a stock market that’s off all time highs.

The Lost Decades become an advantage.

3) I set up a solid financial foundation exactly for times like these

You don’t set up your Finances for the Good times.

You set them up for the Bad times.

You set them up for times when the stock market isn’t doing well, when the chances of layoffs are higher and finding a job, especially one that pays as well as your current one, are lower.

You want your finances to feel like a fortress:

Financially sustainable lifestyle I’m happy with ? Check.

Not taking on more debt than I can afford ? Check.

Emergency Fund that helps me sleep at night ? Check.

If another once in a lifetime crisis does happen, my main goals are:

  1. Survive with my health intact

  2. Survive without being financially ruined or set back decades

  3. Be in a position to take advantage of market lows

If your finances don’t feel like a Fortress, it’s not too late to build it.

I've built a System for Professionals like us: Busy and in search of a comprehensive system.

It'll help you:
